We tried the ordinary “b” oil
The Ordinary’s “B” Oil claims to solubilize a purified form of micro-algae in a blend of squalane and marula, argan, baobab, pataua, brazil nut, inca inchi, rosehip and borage oils to support healthy skin defense, enhance radiance, quench free radicals and help balance pro-irritant mediators.

The oils included at the largest volumes in the blend closely resemble human sebum in structure, ensuring rapid penetration, deep hydration and no greasy residue. The first is Squalane which comprises three major antioxidants, namely, Vitamin E, Polyphenols and Phytosterols, for ultimate protection against free radicals and restorative function. Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil offers a strong concentration of Omega 9 fatty acids. Jojoba Seed Oil is technically a polyunsaturated wax which restores and soothes the skin through high fatty acid composition. Emollient properties from these oils help to trap moisture, keeping skin soft and supple. In the long term, improved moisture retention assists to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.Replenishing behaviour is also supported by Baobab Oil which displays excellent softening, healing and regenerating properties too. Antioxidant rich, it helps to protect against free radical damage, activity boosted by Tocopherol, a source of Vitamin E. High Vitamin A, B and C content delivers anti-ageing benefits, helping to improve elasticity, firm and hydrate the skin. Furthermore, Omega fatty acids reinforce the moisture barrier. Similarly, Argan Oil retains a high content of essential fatty acids including linoleic and oleic acids and tocopherol (Vitamin E) to assure hydration and protection against free radical activity.Bisabolol enhances hydration which in turn assists to reduce flaking and skin damage caused by a lack of moisture. It boasts a high panthenol concentration so can also effectively stimulate and promote the skin’s healing process. Meanwhile, Borage Seed Oil is rich in Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) which is essential for replenishing the skin’s protective barrier. This makes it a saviour for dryness, helping to deliver smooth, plump, supple and radiant skin. It is an excellent treatment for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Squalane, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Bisabolol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Isochrysis Galbana (Marine Algae) Extract, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel (Argan) Oil, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil, Oenocarpus Bataua (Pataua) Fruit Oil, Plukenetia Volubilis (Sacha Inchi) Seed Oil, Bertholletia Excelsa (Brazil Nut) Seed Oil, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Hydroxymethoxyphenyl Decanone, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol

The “B” oil comes in typical The Ordinary packaging, comprising a brown almost opaque bottle (UV protective) with dropper lid.

The CosDNA and EWG assessments return ideal low hazard ratings.

The Ordinary range of skincare products is widely available online from boutiques such as Beautylish, Adore Beauty, The Ordinary website and stores including a few The Ordinary boutiques, Priceline pharmacies and department stores.

the expiry
The oil lasts 6 months after opening.

the performance
Firstly, in terms of appearance, this oil takes on the typical The Ordinary packaging, presented in a UV protective brown tinted glass bottle to reduce light degradation of the product. The screw top dropped lid is effective at providing a hygienic dispensing mechanism. The blend is defined by a slightly green tinge with a typical oil texture. A quality blend of oils which costs only AUD$18.50 for 30ml is a cost effective choice whose performance exceeds some more expensive counterparts.

The Ordinary “B” Oil is a great blend of quality oils which absorbs without greasiness or oiliness to deliver a pleasant layer of hydration and emollients for hydrated and supple skin respectively. I have really enjoyed using it in both day and night routines.
